The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. One of 69 chapters throughout the United States and its territories. The Foundation also includes 28 international affiliates spanning five continents. Since 1980, more than 141,000 children have had their dreams fulfilled through the efforts of Make-A-Wish Foundation® volunteers and donors. Since our chapter's inception in 1984, we have granted over 3,900 wishes. In fiscal year 2006, we granted 467 wishes. Children from 47 counties in the Texas Gulf Coast area and all 64 parishes of Louisiana benefit from the efforts of this chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation®.

Children's Hospital is Louisiana's only full-service hospital exclusively for children, offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient care. A not-for-profit facility, it is governed by an independent board of trustees made up of community volunteers. The hospital has no stockholders and no dividends to pay. Revenue generated is used to operate the hospital and to expand and advance services.

This year millions of school children around the world will benefit from D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), the highly acclaimed program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles and has proven so successful that it is now being implemented in 75 percent of our nation's school districts and in more than 43 countries around the world. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.

MacDonell Children's Services provide and maintain a benevolent, charitable, non-profit organization for the care, custody, heritage, education and welfare of children, youth and families without regard to sex, race, color, creed, national origin or handicapping condition that can be addressed within the scope of the program, services and financial resources of the agency. MacDonell provides an incentive to achieve through self-reliance through its Group Life Program, where emotional, educational, spiritual, social and medical aspects are integrated into our individual plan of care for each child. Our qualified and dedicated staff unite to achieve the goals for the 36 boys and girls in our care. While providing the children with these basic needs, the short term goal is to stabilize the child both mentally and physically so that the healing process may begin. MacDonell strives in the long term to mold these children into responsible adults ready to assume their places in today's society.

The Louis Infant's Crisis Center is a center that aims to prevent child neglect and abuse by offering protective services to children through a 24 hour, 7 day a week emergency shelter. It also provides counseling to parents. It is a licensed child care center working with the Louisiana State Protective Services and Child Placement Agency and/or the parents themselves toward meeting the needs of children and their families in a crisis situation or those in imminent danger of abuse, neglect or exploitation.
